Veteran Benefits
Since 1994, the staff at SouthCare has had the honor of serving more than 3,000 veterans and their families. We can coordinate cremation or traditional funeral services at any national, veterans’ or private cemetery. We’re here to assist you in creating a special tribute and inform you of the many no-cost or reimbursable benefits that may be available to you.
All honorably discharged veterans are entitled to a free burial in a national cemetery. There are no charges for opening or closing the grave, for a vault or liner, or for the headstone or marker in a national cemetery. This eligibility also extends to some civilians who have provided military-related service and some Public Health Service personnel.
Other benefits include a Presidential Memorial Certificate, gravesite in a national cemetery, burial allowance, military honors, and a burial flag. Benefits for spouses and dependents buried in a national cemetery include burial with the veteran, perpetual care, and his or her name and date of birth/death inscribed on the headstone. Eligible spouses and dependents may be buried even if they pre-decease the veteran. The family is generally responsible for transportation to the cemetery and other expenses.
Cremated remains are buried or inurned in national cemeteries in the same manner and with the same military honors as casketed remains.
SouthCare honors each honorably discharged veteran with a United States flag and contacts their branch of service to schedule military honors, playing of taps and presentation of the flag to the next-of-kin.
